Nulling interferometry
Web18 jul. 2024 · Nulling interferometry is a technique initially proposed in 1978 to detect “nonsolar” planets (Bracewell 1978). The basic principle of this technique is to combine the beams coming from two telescopes in phase opposition so that a dark fringe appears on the line of sight (see middle panel of Fig. 5 ), which strongly reduces the stellar emission. WebThe Laboratory for Astronomical Instrumentation initiated the Nulling Interferometry Cryogenic Experiment (NICE) in order to support the Large Interferometer For Exoplanets ( LIFE call_made) initiative. WebNulling interferometry is the name given to an instrumental technique based on interferences between several telescopes to detect directly exoplanets. The principle is to create a virtual “blind spot” at the exact location of a bright source, a star, in order to reveal the much fainter source, which is a planet orbiting it. Overview
Web26 mrt. 2002 · How nulling interferometry works. In nulling interferometry, light from a distant star (red beams) hits each telescope, labelled T1 and T2, simultaneously. … Web1.The algorithm solves the problems of both nulling depth and main-lobe shape keeping effect.
